Think about your practice with the “So What?” method today. What is one thing you understand about commentary now that you did not fully understand before? How will you apply it when writing your next AP Lang argument?

Prompt Response: One thing about commentary that I understand that I did not before was how to lead into it. Before, I would start the commentary with phrases such as "this evidence shows" or "this evidence proves." I now know that there are other more effective ways to introduce commentary. Not only that but before in my commentary I was sometimes rephrasing the evidence over again. When writing my next AP Lang essay I will use all of these skills to improve my argument. I will introduce the commentary in a way that transitions smoothly using academic language. Additionally, I will make my commentary using questions such as "what does this evidence prove, why does it matter, and how does it connect to the research statement?"

Summary: Today in class we practiced commentary with multiple prompts and pieces of evidence

Reflection: I learned what questions to ask myself when writing commentary that will make my reasoning more effective. I also learned how to properly introduce commentary after evidence.

Think about the word or phrase you find yourself using the most right now. What is it, what does it mean, and why has it become part of your everyday vocabulary? Explain when you typically use it and what your choice of this word or phrase might reveal about you.

Think about a time when you made a claim or gave an opinion, but someone asked you, “Why?” or “How do you know?” Describe the situation. What evidence did you use to support your point, and why is explaining your evidence just as important as providing it?
